TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women's Lacrosse heads to California for the final trip of their four-game road stretch, taking on San Diego State on Thursday afternoon at Aztec Lacrosse Field.

The 2 p.m. MST contest pits Arizona State against the defending MPSF Tournament Champion Aztecs. It will be the second appearance for the Sun Devils at Aztec Lacrosse Field, previously travelling to San Diego in 2018.

On Monday, the conference announced that Sun Devil Lacrosse attacker Emily Glagolev was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. The junior played brilliantly in all facets of the game this weekend, proving once again she can compete at the highest level. Glagolev finished with three goals, seven assists, three ground balls, and two draw controls as the Arizona State split their two-game road trip to the Midwest.

"Glag had a great weekend for us and very deserving of her player of the week honor," Sun Devil Lacrosse Assistant Coach Nicole Graziano remarked. "She was composed with the ball and finished her shots in crucial moments."

Glagolev continues her offensive tear dating back to last season, recording her three or more assists in four straight games. After adding two more this weekend, she now has 12 consecutive multi-point performances, compiling 46 points during that span. She became just the second Sun Devil in program history to surpass 100 career points, joining teammate Kerri Clayton in the exclusive club.

She has had plenty of success in her career against the Sun Devils next opponent. Behind the strength of a historic nine-point day by Emily Glagolev (3 goals, 6 assists), the Sun Devils captured a 13-11 victory over San Diego State last season.

LAST TIME OUT
Arizona State split their two-game road trip to the Midwest last weekend, dropping a contest to No. 3 Northwestern after cruising to a 24-6 victory over Detroit.

Friday was a historical day for the Sun Devil offense against Detroit, as the 24 goals and 13 different goal scorers represented new program records. Additionally, the 18-goal margin of victory matched a program-high. For the second consecutive game, the Maroon & Gold took control early on the road, building an early and insurmountable lead.

"Setting a program record for goals against Detroit was a total team effort," Coach Graziano reflected. "The defense played well and came up with numerous caused turnovers to transition into our offensive end."

Arizona State put together a fantastic effort in all phases of the game, with the offense and defense functioning at a high level. Taylor Carson paced the offense with five points, with Kaylon Buckner and Emily Glagolev each finishing with four. Berkeley Bonneau looked sharp in net, making six saves in 40 minutes of action. Several Sun Devils enjoyed collegiate-firsts, as Tess Keiser, Brynn Holohan, and Katie Brodsky each recorded their first goals of their careers, while freshman Lindsey Spies made her first save.

"Overall, we were happy with the distribution of points on the offensive side of the ball," Coach Graziano added. "A few players had their first career goals which was exciting, and many returners contributed as well."

On Sunday, Arizona State fell behind early to No. 3 Northwestern, but managed to put together a much-improved second half effort. They matched the Wildcats' goal output (5), while also recording more shots and winning the draw control battle. Former Northwestern Assistant Coach and current Sun Devil Head Coach Tim McCormack received a ring in his return to Evanston, as the 2019 Big Ten Tournament Champions were honored in a pre-game ceremony.

"I was happy with our team's ability to fight until the last whistle against a very good Northwestern team," Coach Graziano mentioned.

KNOW YOUR FOE: SAN DIEGO STATE

For the third consecutive year, the Aztecs and Sun Devils will do battle, with each team winning one of the first two matchups. San Diego State is led by Kylee White, who is in the midst of her ninth season as the head coach. She has guided the Aztecs to three consecutive double-digit win seasons, most recently coming off a 11-7 campaign in which they captured the MPSF Tournament Championship in 2019.

"San Diego is a fast and athletic lacrosse team," Coach Graziano observed. "They are a hard-dodging offense, play solid defense and are aggressive between the 30s."

In their first game of the 2020 season, the Aztecs fell to Stanford on the road. Midfielder Taylor Sullivan paced the offense, finishing with three goals. San Diego State leans on redshirt senior goalkeeper Katy Sharretts, who made 13 saves in the season-opening oss to the Cardinal. Behind the strength of a historic nine-point day by Emily Glagolev (3 goals, 6 assists), Arizona State defeated San Diego State 13-11 in Tempe last April. Junior midfielder Kylie Kroeger will be making a return home, as she is from San Diego, one of four Californians on the roster.

COACH'S KEYS
"It starts with the draw, so we need to be tough in the draw circle and compete," Coach Graziano emphasized regarding the keys to victory. "We had a great effort this weekend and are continuing to get better every day."

The coaching staff has been working with the team on this area of the game and the results speak form themselves. They held a 22-9 advantage in draw controls over Detroit, including 11 from junior Maura Cissel, which tied a program record. "Going 22 for 31 in the draw circle was huge and provided more opportunities for our attack to be successful," Coach Graziano said. Kaylon Buckner also had a career-high seven draw controls against No. 3 Northwestern.
