TEMPE, Ariz. - Sun Devil Gymnastics has added two to the 2022 roster, as announced by head coach Jay Santos on National Signing Day.

The Gym Devils will welcome Mallory Marcheli and Alex Theodorou to the family. Both signees have had stand-out athletic careers thus far, both qualifying for the highest postseason events in the sport at the Elite and J.O. Championship meets, as well as placing first in various meets. 

Mallory Marcheli | Stars Gymnastics Training Center | Richmond, Texas
The Texas native competed on some big stages in 2018, such as J.O. Nationals, U.S. Elite Classic and the American Elite Classic. She qualified as a Junior International Elite gymnast at the Brestyans Elite qualifier in 2018. 

Gymnastics achievements:
  • 2020 Rose City Classic - 1st (37.450)
  • 2020 Everest Classic - 1st (37.825)
  • 2019 Auburn National Qualifier - 1st (49.000)
    • 1st on vault (12.800), bars (12.200), beam (12.600) and floor (11.400)
  • 2018 National Elite Qualifier (June) - 6th (50.550)
    • 4th on beam (13.300) and 5th on bars (12.100)
  • 2018 National Elite Qualifier (May) - 3rd (48.200)
    • 2nd on vault (12.750)
    • 3rd on bars (12.300), beam (11.050) and floor (12.100)

She is a former Elite gymnast that has beautiful lines and grace in her gymnastics, and we are eager to see her bring artistry and that 'WOW' factor on beam and floor for the Sun Devils next year."

Alex Theodorou | Desert Lights | Chandler, Ariz.
A local gymnast, Alex Theodorou has won 11 state and regional championship titles during her level 10 career and has competed at J.O. Nationals three times. She had an outstanding showing at 2019 J.O.s when she placed sixth in the all-around. She has also scored a perfect 10 on vault, which she did at the 2020 Valley of the Sun Challenge.

    • 1st on vault (10.000), beam (9.650) and floor (9.825)
  • 2019 Women's J.O. National Championships - T6th (37.725)

    • 1st on floor (9.625), T1st on vault (9.750), 3rd on beam (9.550) and 4th on bars (9.325)

Santos: "We are thrilled that Alex chose to stay home and be a Sun Devil! It was so easy to see during the recruiting process that she is going to be a stand-out collegiate gymnast. She is very driven and focused in everything she does, which can be seen through her athletic and academic accomplishments. Alex is going to make an impact on every event as a Sun Devil and most notably on floor and vault, where she excels. Her dynamic gymnastics will highlight what she is capable of doing and is going to be exciting to watch."
