Overall thoughts
"I think the nerves got to them a little bit. They were kind of fighting it even during warm ups, so we were just trying to get them to settle in. Obviously, we have a lot of newcomers and a lot of new routines, so we are just trying to get them to settle in and just focus on what they can do as well as growing to get better from last week. It was a little up and down, some routines were way better, obviously we finished really well on floor, but the nerves got to us on beam and that's a little unfortunate."
On Juliette Boyer
"Juliette is a beautiful gymnast. I think once she gains a little more experience and settles in a little bit more, a couple of those landings will come here and there more. But she has a great foundation and great gymnastics for everyone to see. I think she is going to keep getting stronger."
On how they are helping the newcomers
"We are just focusing on doing it a little bit better every turn, whatever your turn was good or bad, come back and take the next turn and try to make it better, work on that consistency to help build your confidence throughout the week. We want them to keep it simple since we are still getting some experience. Our focus all week and going into next week is going to be what do we need to do better to put together a whole performance."
Team Results
Freshmen Reeves and Scharf led the way on vault in the first rotation, each scoring a 9.800. Seniors Ginn and Wilson earned 9.775s to help the team to its event total.
Rotation Two: Bars, 48.900
Boyer had the best score for ASU on bars with a 9.825. Three Gym Devils scored 9.775s to help Arizona State to its best bars score this season: Ginn, Reeves and Wilson. The event total was the best bars score of the season.
Rotation Three: Beam, 47.675
The Gym Devils struggled on beam. Wilson had a team-high 9.800. Thompson and Boyer both chipped in 9.750s as well. ASU had two falls on beam, which meant that the team had to count one of them, which hurt the event total.
Rotation Four: Floor, 49,150
Leading off in the final rotation, Thompson earned a career-high 9.825. With 9.825s from both Boyer and Scharf leading up to the anchor spot, Ginn delivered with a career-high 9.900. The event score is the highest for the Gym Devils in any event this season.
