TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil women's basketball team continued its tradition of excellence in the classroom as it had seven student-athletes named to the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Recognized by the conference were seniors Reili Richardson (3.35 GPA/Finance), Jamie Ruden (4.00 GPA/Psychology), Kiara Russell (3.53 GPA/Sociology) and Robbi Ryan (4.00 GPA/Med Higher and Post Secondary Education) and sophomores Taya Hanson (3.74 GPA/Marketing), Jamie Loera (3.67 GPA/Business) and Jayde Van Hyfte (3.92 GPA/ Interdisciplinary Studies).
Any student-athlete on his or her respective team roster with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above, and who has served at least one year in residence at the institution, is eligible to receive all-academic honors. This is the first year of a new format for honoring the achievements of student-athletes in academics. There is no longer a selection process to determine all-academic teams for each sport. Any student-athlete who qualifies is named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll during the season in which he/she competes.
On the court, ASU was equally brilliant as it won 20 or more games for the seventh straight season. The Sun Devils, who were ranked No. 25 in the final AP poll, were preparing to make their school record seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament before the cancellation of the season was announced on March 12. In January, ASU became the first unranked team to defeat consecutive Top-5 opponents when it knocked off then-No. 2 Oregon (72-66 on Jan. 10) and then-No. 3 Oregon State (54-47 on Jan. 12).
