Homestand Continues for Lacrosse against Fresno StateHomestand Continues for Lacrosse against Fresno State
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State Lacrosse team hosts Fresno State on Monday afternoon at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

In the second matchup of a six-game homestand, the Sun Devils take on the Bulldogs (2-2) at 2 pm MST. New Head Coach Tim McCormack and his coaching staff have placed an emphasis on protecting their home turf. The Maroon & Gold did exactly that in their 18-14 victory on Thursday over Marquette.

"There's just a different energy at home games," Assistant Coach Dorrien Van Dyke remarked. "We were really happy to come up with a win in our first home game over a tough team like Marquette. We are looking forward to keeping that momentum throughout our swing of games at home."

Arizona State's offense has been clicking on all cylinders early in the season, partly due to the new system implemented by Coach Van Dyke and fellow Assistant Coach Nicole Graziano. Their offense has scored at least 18 goals in three of the first five games, reaching double figures in each contest. ASU leads the conference in scoring (17.6 goals/game), having recorded 88 goals through the first five games. At the same point last season, they had scored 51 goals (10.2 goals/game). Come out to Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium on Monday at 2 pm to see the high-scoring 2020 Sun Devils in action. If you can't make it out to the Monday matinee, the game will be broadcasted through the ASU Live Stream at the following link.

LAST TIME OUT
The Sun Devil Lacrosse team opened their 2020 home slate with a 18-14 victory over Marquette, on Thursday afternoon at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium. Arizona State (3-2) jumped out to an early 5-1 lead behind the strength of a tremendous combination of goalkeeping and defense. The offense was in-sync all afternoon, with eight different Sun Devils recording at least one goal, including three who finished with hat tricks. The toughness of the Maroon & Gold was tested on several occasions with the Golden Eagles cutting the deficit down to as little as one, but the Sun Devils had an answer to every Marquette run.

Attacker Kerri Clayton once again played a major role in the Sun Devil offense, which came into the game leading the Pac-12 Conference in scoring (17.50 goals/game). She helped improve that total this afternoon, scoring at least five goals and recording at least seven points for the second consecutive game. Clayton has made the most of her senior season, already sitting at 28 points only five games into the season.

There was plenty of support for Clayton on the offensive end, as the Sun Devils received contributions throughout the roster. Emily Glagolev put together yet another three-assist performance, adding two goals to give her an incredible 26 points in five games. Anna Winkeler continues a brilliant start to her freshman campaign, finishing with a career-high five points (three goals & two assists). Katie Brodsky provided a scoring spark off the bench yet again, scoring at least one goal for the fourth consecutive game on her way to finishing with a career-high four points. Carley Adams was one of three Sun Devils with a hat trick, needing less than 20 minutes of game time to complete the feat.

Coming into the game, Marquette was 13th in the country with 16.6 draw controls/game. The significance of this aspect of the game was stressed to the players throughout the week in practice. Adjustments made by the coaching staff to the draw control unit paid dividends in the second half, as ASU won the battle over the final 30 minutes. Coach Van Dyke recognized a change in the team's mentality in the second half, which led to success on the draw.

"Our adaptions on the draw were important, but the biggest thing was just our overall compete level being through the roof," Coach Van Dyke mentioned. "We made it hard for them to come up with possession and that was something we had been stressing all week."

The steady play in net of Berkeley Bonneau was crucial to creating separation in the second half. The redshirt junior did not let the Golden Eagles' 18 free-position attempts affect her game. She made several spectacular saves on shots from close range, showing off her athleticism and poise. In addition to the nine goals from eight-meter attempts, Marquette scored twice on the man advantage. Bonneau allowed only three goals at even strength during her 12-save performance.

KNOW YOUR FOE: FRESNO STATE
The Bulldogs finished last season with a 7-7 record and enter the season with Kara Concheck serving as the Interim Head Coach. It will be the first meeting between the two programs, which are both breaking in new coaches. Fresno State holds a 2-2 record after falling to Marquette, 18-17, on Saturday at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

"Fresno is a scrappy team that competes hard and likes to push the pace," Coach Van Dyke observed. "We have prepared well for them for what we've seen on film and are looking forward to another opportunity to play on our home field."

Through three games, the Bulldogs are averaging 16.5 goals/game, scoring 17 or more goals in each of their last four games. Attacker Sydney Skalstad leads the offense with 19 goals, while fellow attacker Lauren Kiszely has a team-high 12 assists. Goalkeeper Laurel Maunder has played 217 of a possible 240 minutes in net for Fresno State, making 31 saves with a .375 save percentage.
