Sun Devils Close Busy Weekend In Ames, ABQSun Devils Close Busy Weekend In Ames, ABQ
TEMPE – Cortney Jones held her own against some of the best women in the nation this weekend as she led a group of Sun Devils at the USATF Indoor Championships, while Bianca Tinoco and the Distance Devils made noise in Ames at the Iowa State Classic.

Just across the eastern border in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a handful of current Sun Devils competed at the Don Kirby Elite and USATF Indoor Championships, including two-time NCAA champion Samantha Noennig, All-Americans Jones and Garrett O'Toole, and redshirt-sophomore Cole Riddle among others.

Jones continued to move closer to the ASU school record in the 60-meter hurdles as she navigated her way to a top-five finish. The senior finished fifth in the prelims with a time of 8.14 seconds, then ran a season's beat 8.10 to take fourth in the final and move within one-hundredth of a second of tying the school record.

Noennig competed in the shot put competition at the ABQ Convention Center and finished fifth overall among America's best. She was the highest finishing collegiate athlete in the competition and just missed out on medaling by a foot. The contest's third-place finisher was a familiar face in former Sun Devil great Maggie Ewen.

The convention center also hosted the Don Kirby Elite this weekend where Josephine Anokye, Shelby Moran and Ian Schulz both moved up in the record book.

Anokye clocked a 23.57 to win the women's 200-meter dash and record a new No. 4 time on the Sun Devils' all-time list. The reshirt-freshman Moran finished fifth in the weight throw and launched the eighth-best weight throw mark in school history of 19.63m/65-5.0.

Schulz put his name on one of ASU's most elite lists with his 18.61m/61-3.25-foot heave in the men's shot put. The mark gave him second in the competition.

Over in the Great Plains at the Iowa State Classic, after barely missing out on a top-10 mark in her last mile run, Tinoco smashed her lifetime best by seven seconds to claim the No. 5 spot in school history with a 4:45.49.

Megan Reniewicki earned back-to-back wins when she dashed to a victory in the women's 5,000 in a personal best 16:51.39, and Jackson Lewis made the most of his homecoming by clocking a PR in the 3,000 of 8:04.53.

Adam Meyer continued his upward trend by earning his first spot on a Sun Devil top-10 list. He went 1:52.01 in the 800 at the Lied Recreation Center to slot in at eighth all-time.

With the conclusion of the Iowa State Classic, the Sun Devils find themselves two weeks away from the MPSF Championships in Seattle. ASU has one regular season meet left on its schedule before the conference clash on Puget Sound.
