TEMPE, Ariz. – Canada Basketball today announced that Arizona State University sophomore guard Taya Hanson will be one of 12 athletes representing Canada at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand (July 20-28).

Last year Hanson averaged 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals in helping lead Canada to a silver medal at the FIBA U18 Championship

Hanson played in every game for the Sun Devils last season, finishing fifth on the team in 3-pointers. Hanson knocked down a career-high four triples in ASU's season-opening win over Incarnate Word.

Hanson is one of three Sun Devils playing internationally this summer. Incoming freshman Sara Bejedi just concluded play with Finland at the World University Games in Italy. Bejedi finished third among all players in scoring (16.2 ppg), second in steals (3.0 spg) and tied for third in 3-pointers per game (2.7).

Next month sophomore Iris Mbulito will represent Spain at the FIBA U20 European Championship being held Aug. 3-11 in the Czech Republic. Last year Mbulito earned MVP honors in helping Spain claim the gold at the U20 European Championship in Sopron, Hungary. Mbulito earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention honors in her first season as a Sun Devil. Two of Mbulito's most impactful performances came in ASU's upset victories over Oregon State as she just missed averaging double figures in the two games (9.5 ppg).
