TEMPE – The Arizona State track and field teams will return to Tempe after a weekend of elite competition that saw the Sun Devils put up personal bests and top-10 finishes across the country.
Sophomore standout Samantha Noennig grabbed a third-place finish in the shot put, but was the joint-top collegiate finisher in the event as two professionals took gold and silver at the Don Kirby Elite, including former Sun Devil Maggie Ewen.
Marcus Howard ran a season best in the 60-meter hurdles over in Albuquerque, and Jessica Barreira took third in a long jump with a near PR of 12.82m/42-0.75 feet.
Ian Schulz eighth-place finish in the shot put came with a personal best throw of 17.38m/57-0.25 feet. It's the sophomore's third straight meet with a PR and he's improved his best mark in the shot by nearly four feet since the season began.
In Arkansas, Anaya Bailey clocked the best time by a Sun Devil in the 400 this season when she crossed the line at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in 56.50 seconds. She finished 13th overall in the event and moved into the top-15 in the conference.
A couple of Sun Devil sophomores in Adam Meyer and Emily Gallegos-Francksen set personal bests in the 800-meter run up at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa. Both finished 48th overall in some of the deepest fields the indoor season has to offer, but both also finished third in their respective heats.
Bianca Tinoco finished 26th overall in the 800 at the ISU Classic, just a fraction of a second off of her personal best from last season.
Next weekend will be the Sun Devils' last chance to get tuned up before heading to Seattle to compete for conference crowns at the MPSF Championships.
