TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State senior wide receiver/punt and kick returner Brandon Aiyuk was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Arizona State's contest at Oregon State on Saturday.
Aiyuk's 63-yard punt return in the second quarter was the first punt return for a touchdown allowed by Oregon State since November 21, 2015. Also a starting wide receiver, Aiyuk finished the game with a career-high 10 receptions for 173 receiving yards and a touchdown. He collected 293 (173 receiving, 76 punt return, 44 kick return) all-purpose yards, the fifth-most in a single game in program history.
Aiyuk is currently sixth nationally and first in the Pac-12 in all-purpose yards at 158.30 per game - the most for any wide receiver in the country. He is over 2,000 all-purpose yards (2,438) in his career at ASU despite being in Tempe for less than two full seasons. Aiyuk has racked up 1,583 all-purpose yards this season on just 78 total plays (20.3 yards per touch, which is third nationally).
Aiyuk is 13th nationally and third in the Pac-12 with 964 receiving yards on the year and his 96.4 receiving yards per game are also 19th in the FBS and fourth in the league. At 18.19 yards per reception, Aiyuk is third in the Pac-12 and 37th nationally in the category. Five of his seven touchdown receptions in 2019 have been for more than 30 yards (77 yards vs. Kent State, 53 yards vs. Colorado, 40 yards vs. WSU, 86 yards vs. WSU, 33 yards vs. WSU).
The Sun Devils have now had seven players combine for 10 Pac-12 weekly awards this season: quarterback Jayden Daniels (Freshman of the Week – Sept. 3, Sept. 16, Oct. 14), punter Michael Turk (Special Teams Player of the Week – Sept. 3), placekicker Cristian Zendejas (Special Teams – Sept. 9), defensive end Jermayne Lole (Defensive Line Player of the Week – Sept. 16), center Cohl Cabral (Offensive Line Player of the Week – Sept. 30), defensive end George Lea (Defensive Line– Sept. 30) and Aiyuk (Offensive, Special Teams – October 14, November 18).
