@SunDevilGym Adds Six To 2021 Roster

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State gymnastics has added six to the 2021 roster, as announced by head coach Jay Santos.

"Our signing class brings a tremendous amount of talent and experience," Santos said. "It will be another large class for us, but the class as a whole is really balanced." 

The Sun Devils will welcome Cassandra Barbanente, Sarah Clark, Skye Harper, Jade Mangahas, Anaya Smith and Emily White. Each newcomer hails from a different part of the country, from the west coast to the east coast, and brings a lot of great experience to the Gym Devils.

Cassandra Barbanente | Palmers Gymnastics | Itsaca, Ill.
She was a JO National Team member in 2018. Finished in the top five at the 2019 and 2018 JO National Championships in bars and in the top 10 at those meets in the all-around. She goes by Cassi.

Gymnastics achievements:

• 2019 Women's JO National Championships - T10th (37.625)
  • T4th on vault (9.650), 5th on bars (9.650) and T7th on floor (9.525)
• 2019 Region 5 9/10 Championships - 7th (????
  • 1st on vault (9.575) and bars (9.775)

Santos: "One of the things we noticed right away with Cassi is that she is a fierce competitor. Her work ethic and determination will fit well with our training system, and we believe she will contribute in a big way! She is strong across all four events and was a JO National Team member in 2018."

Sarah Clark | Azarian Gymnastics | Huntington Beach, Calif.
Clark was a 2018 JO National Team member. She has competed at JO Nationals in 2018, 2017 and 2016, finishing in the top 10 in an event in each appearance. She was a JO National Runner-Up in the all-around and on balance beam in 2018.

• 2018 JO Nationals - 2nd (38.275)
  • T2nd on beam (9.650), T6th on both vault (9.675) and bars (9.575)

• 2018 SoCal 6-10 State Championships - 1st on beam (9.650)

Santos: "Sarah's strength is her artistry and execution across all four events. She is particularly strong on bars and beam, where she's had a tremendous amount of success in her JO career. Skye Harper | New Image Gymnastics | Bay Shore, NY.
Finished in the top three on beam and floor at the 2019 Regional Championship.

Gymnastics achievements:

• 2019 Level 9/10 Regional Championships - 2nd on beam (9.175) and T3rd on floor (9.450)
• 2019 and 2018 JO National Qualifier
• 2019 JO National Championships - 11th on vault (9.475), 12th on beam (9.350)
• 2018 Region 6 Levels 9-10 Championships - 1st on floor (9.600), 5th on beam (9.000)
• 2018 New York 9/10 Xcel State Championships - T2nd on beam (9.450)

Santos: "Skye has grown tremendously as a gymnast since we started watching her, which has been quite evident from her competition success over the last couple of seasons. Her passion for gymnastics and for Arizona State were very clear through the whole recruiting process. We have no doubt that passion will continue to drive her to success as a Sun Devil."

Jada Mangahas | Parkette Gymnastics | Allentown, Pa.
Had a strong showing at the 2019 JO National Championships, finishing in the top 10 in two events and in the all-around. Also qualified for JO Nationals in 2017 and 2015.

Santos: "Jada brings a strong skill set and a wide array of gymnastics across all four events. She has the ability for dynamic routines on each event, which shows from her top-10 finish in the all-around and sixth-place finish on beam at JO Nationals in 2019. She has a way of making her gymnastics skills look effortless, and we are excited to see her flourish as a Sun Devil."

Anaya Smith | Docksiders Gymnastics | Laurel, Md.
Qualified for JO National Championships in 2018 and 2017. Won five vault titles in 2019, including a first-place finish at the 2019 State Championships. She also won two floor titles in her career.

• 2019 Maryland Level 6, 9 & 10 State Championships - 1st on vault (9.725)
• 2018 JO Nationals - T3rd on vault (9.700)
• 2018 Region 7 Level 9, 10 Championships - 1st (37.875)

Santos: "Anaya caught our eye with her dynamic gymnastics and big skills on vault and floor. Emily White | SCATS Gymnastics | Seal Beach, Calif.

Santos: "Emily has such a great look to her gymnastics. As you watch her, what really stands out is her clean execution and amazing artistry, especially on bars and beam. She has a great drive and attention to detail, so when you add all of that together to the fact that she has been able to upgrade her difficulty level on several events, we feel that will lead to big success as a Sun Devil. We are very excited to have her join the program."
