FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Two Sun Devil sophomores helped earn a 4-0 shutout of Alaska on Saturday night, earning the series split in the team's longest road trip of the season.
Netminder Evan DeBrouwer picked up his second shutout of the season and fifth victory, while defenseman Josh Maniscalco recorded his first collegiate three-point game with two goals and an assist.
"It was a great road win against a really good hockey team," said head coach Greg Powers. "They've already beaten some really high-end teams and given everyone that they play fits. We found out why this weekend. A tough road trip and a really good road win for us."
The Sun Devils (6-4-0) came out of the gates fast in the first period, developing scoring chances early while DeBrouwer bolted up the hatches on the back end.
Along with the two sophomores, junior forward James Sanchez continued his scoring streak to six games with his 14th and 15th point of the season. During his six-game tear, he's recorded a goal and nine assists, including three-straight games with two assists. With his two points tonight, Sanchez officially sets a new personal best for most points in a season after recording 13 in his freshman season at the University of Michigan in 2016-17.
The Sun Devils now have a two-weekend break before returning to action Thanksgiving weekend at home against Vermont. Single game tickets still remain for the holiday series by clicking here.

Coach Powers on Evan DeBrouwer…
"He's a stud. It doesn't shock me at all. I was disappointed we couldn't get him (the win) last night. He put us in a position to win and we didn't get it, but we bounced back and gave up just 20 shots on the road. He made some big wins there at the end to deserve the shutout."
On having two weeks off before Vermont…
"We'll get some key guys back that have been out – Filips Buncis and Brett Gruber. Get them 100% and they'll be big shots in the arm for us. We could feel the lack of their presence down the middle, so it'll be really good to get those two back."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Another back and forth first period ensued in game two, and it was the Sun Devils again striking first late in the frame as Maniscalco fired a one-timer that trickled under Nanook goaltender Gustavs Grigals on the man advantage.
- Just over a minute later, ASU senior co-captain Tyler Busch netted his second goal of the season on a loose puck in front to give the Devils a 2-0 lead entering the first intermission.
- The second period didn't feature much as a total of eight shots were fired on net between the two teams.
- Four minutes into the 3rd, sophomore Demetrios Koumontzis tacked on his third goal of the season on a great dish from Sanchez and Maniscalco.
- For good measure, Maniscalco completed his career night with a long empty-net goal from the ASU zone with just under two minutes remaining for the 4-0 lead and eventual final.
- After his third-straight two-assist night, James Sanchez leads the Sun Devils with 15 points on the season, which is tied for third in the country in total points. He also leads the team in assists with 13, which is second most in the country.
- Sanchez's two points tonight sets a new personal best for most points in a season after recording 13 in his freshman season at the University of Michigan in 2016-17.
- DeBrouwer's 20-save shutout makes for his second career shutout and his fifth win in the last six games. In those six games, he holds a 1.68 goals against average and .938 save percentage.
- With two goals tonight, Maniscalco now has five on the season in the first 10 games, surpassing his total of four in his rookie campaign last season.
- With a goal and an assist, Koumontzis recorded his second multi-point game of the season.
- ASU's penalty kill was perfect for the third-straight game, killing their last 15 and all 12 in this series.
