PASADENA, Calif. – The No. 24 Sun Devil football team dropped its second consecutive game, falling at UCLA 42-32 on Saturday at the Rose Bowl.

Jayden Daniels had a solid day for the Sun Devils, going 20-for-29 for 271 yards with three touchdown passes while rushing for 67 additional yards and a touchdown. His efforts rallied ASU to a 22-point fourth quarter, its highest output for a frame this season - though the points came a little too late to make an impact on the outcome.

Frank Darby had one of his top performances as a Sun Devil, snagging two fourth quarter touchdowns and finishing with six catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Aiyuk added six catches for 82 yards.

Darien Butler led the Sun Devil defense with 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and a fumble forced and recovered.

NOTABLES
-Kyle Williams extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 36 straight games – the fifth longest streak in ASU history and currently the fourth-longest active streak in the FBS.
-ASU forced and recovered three fumbles in the contest, and now has 11 fumble recoveries on the season. ASU entered the weekend tied for seventh nationally in fumbles recovered.

THE FINAL STRAW
Ultimately, untimely penalties and a struggle to get off the field on third and fourth downs would prove to be ASU's undoing, with UCLA going 7-of-14 on third down and 3-for-3 on fourth down to continuously extend drives throughout the contest.

ASU finished with nine penalties for 67 yards, several of which resulted in first downs for the Bruins.

The game's momentum truly shifted on the final drive of the first half and first drive of the second. With ASU trailing 21-7, UCLA forced a turnover on downs to get the ball back with 1:03 left in the first half and wasted no time getting down the field and finding the end zone to make it a three-score game, 28-7, heading into halftime. UCLA put the pedal down to start the second half with another touchdown-scoring drive to make it 35-7 and effectively put the game out of reach.

HOW IT GOT THERE
First Quarter
The Sun Devils received the opening kickoff and – after a pair of false start penalties – moved the ball 17 yards before turning the ball over to UCLA on a fumble. It took the Bruins a little more than two minutes to move 42 yards for the game's first touchdown, a one-yard run by Joshua Kelley to give the Bruins a 7-0 advantage. The Sun Devils evened up the turnover count later in the quarter when defensive end George Lea sacked UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, forcing the Bruin signal caller to fumble. Chase Lucas recovered the ball for ASU at the UCLA four-yard line and three plays later Daniels scored on a quarterback sneak to even the score at 7-7. The Bruins responded with a 16-play, 81-yard drive that resulted in a five-yard touchdown run by Kelley to put UCLA back up 14-7. The scoring drive was aided by a 21-yard gain on 3rd and 13 at the UCLA 16. The play was originally ruled an incomplete pass before being overturned on official review. The Bruins also kept the drive moving with a two-yard gain on 4th & 1 at the ASU 22.

Second Quarter
ASU moved the ball into UCLA territory on its first drive of the second quarter, reaching as far as the UCLA 33-yard line where it faced a 4th & 1. The Sun Devils were prepared to go for it but a penalty for false start moved the ball back five yards, forcing ASU to punt. Kelley scored his third touchdown of the game – a 16-yard run – on UCLA's ensuing drive – a 16-play, 80-yard march – to give the Bruins a 21-7 advantage. ASU's next possession was similar to its previous drive as it once again drove into UCLA territory. Daniels rushed twice for 25 yards and also hit Darby for an 18-yard reception. Once again ASU was faced with a 4th & 1, this one from the UCLA 36-yard line. The Sun Devils would turn the ball over on downs after Benjamin was stopped for no gain. A 20-yard scoring strike from Thompson-Robinson to Kyle Philips extended UCLA's lead to 28-7 with 25 seconds left in the first half.

Third Quarter
UCLA received the kickoff to start the second half. The offensive success the Bruins had in the first half carried over into the third quarter as UCLA scored its fifth touchdown on a nine-play, 71-yard drive that was capped by a two-yard run by Kelley. ASU's first drive of the second half resulted in points as Cristian Zendejas connected on a 30-yard field goal to cut the UCLA lead to 35-10. Daniels connected on passes of 41 (Kyle Williams) and 36 yards (Darby) on the drive to help the Sun Devils advance to the UCLA two-yard line. After an exchange of punts, the Bruins put the game out of reach late in the third quarter after Thompson-Robinson found Devin Asiasi in the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown pass to put UCLA up 42-10.

After a bye week, the Sun Devils return to action on Sat., Nov. 9 (time TBA) when they host USC at Sun Devil Stadium.
