TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels was one of 70 players named to the midseason watch list for the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American Team and the Shaun Alexander/Stand Together Freshman of the Year Award, the FWAA announced on Wednesday.
Daniels is 14th nationally and first in the Pac-12 in pass yards per completion (14.22) while his 8.43 yards per pass attempt are 28th in the FBS. He is 36th in the FBS (third in the Pac-12) with 263.0 yards of total offense per game. The true freshmen is tied for 28th nationally in fewest interceptions with only two to date – one of which coming on a half-ending Hail Mary attempt. Daniels has been exceptional on third downs this season, with his 451 passing yards on third downs good for 19th in the country. His 156.04 passer rating on third down is 25th nationally. In addition, Daniels has rushed for nine first downs on third downs this season - tied for 27th in the nation. Daniels has accounted for 484 total yards of offense and four touchdowns in the fourth quarter of games (399 passing, 85 rushing). His 399 passing yards in the fourth quarter are 11th nationally. Already named the Pac-12's Freshman of the Week three times this season, Daniels has engineered three come-from-behind wins in the fourth quarter, most recently on Oct. 12 when he led ASU 75 yards in the final minutes of its 38-34 win over Washington State. Daniels accounted for every yard on the drive, completing 7-of-9 passes for 58 yards and running 17 yards for the touchdown with 34 seconds remaining.
Last week, Daniels and freshman offensive lineman Dohnovan West were both named to The Athletic's midseason freshman All-America team.
