TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday.
 
Daniels passed for a career-high 363 yards (fifth-most by a freshman in school history) and three touchdowns (with no turnovers), completed 72 percent of his passes (26-36) and led his third fourth-quarter comeback in Saturday's win. He also ran for 23 yards, including a 17-yard dash for the game-winning touchdown with 34 seconds remaining. Daniels connected with senior wide receiver and Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week Brandon Aiyuk for touchdown strikes of 40, 86 and 33 yards. The 86-yard score was the eighth-longest passing play in school history. On the game-winning drive, Daniels accounted for all 75 yards, completing 7-of-9 passes for 58 yards and running 17 yards for the score.
 
Tuesday's award is the latest recognition for Daniels, who on Monday was named Pac-12 Freshman of the WeekRose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the WeekDavey O'Brien Award's Great 8Manning Award 'Stars of the Week' and Athlon Sports Freshman of the Week (Offense).
 
Each week during the 2019 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.
 
The Sun Devils (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12), ranked No. 17 in this week's AP poll, return to action on Saturday when they travel to Salt Lake City to face No. 13 Utah (5-1, 2-1). Kickoff at Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT (3 p.m. in Arizona). The game can be seen on Pac-12 Networks and heard on 98.7 FM Arizona Sports.
