TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels – Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, Rose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the Week, Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8, Manning Award 'Stars of the Week', Athlon Sports Freshman of the Week (Offense) – and senior wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk – Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week – were both recognized with weekly awards for their performances in Arizona State's 38-34 win over Washington State on Saturday.
Daniels passed for a career-high 363 yards (fifth-most by a freshman in school history) and three touchdowns (with no turnovers), completed 72 percent of his passes (26-36) and led his third fourth-quarter comeback in Saturday's win. He also ran for 23 yards, including a 17-yard dash for the game-winning touchdown with 34 seconds remaining. Daniels connected with Aiyuk for touchdown strikes of 40, 86 and 33 yards. The 86-yard score was the eighth-longest passing play in school history. On the game-winning drive, Daniels accounted for all 75 yards, completing 7-of-9 passes for 58 yards and running 17 yards for the score.
Aiyuk caught seven passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns against the Cougars. The 196 yards and three scores both represented career highs, while Aiyuk's 28.0 yard per-catch average was the highest single-game per-catch average of a Sun Devil recording seven catches in a game, passing N'Keal Harry's previous record of 24.3 in 2017. Aiyuk caught a 40-yard pass on 3rd & 5 for ASU's first points of the game early in the second quarter. Later in the quarter, he teamed with Daniels for the aforementioned eighth-longest passing play in school history (86 yards) for his second touchdown of the game. On the play, Aiyuk caught the pass at the ASU 35 and then outraced WSU's defense over the last 65 yards. Aiyuk hauled in his third scoring reception, a 33-yard catch-and-run, early in the fourth quarter. He caught two passes for 23 yards on ASU's game-winning, 75-yard touchdown drive that culminated in Daniels' 17-yard run.
