STANFORD, Calif. – On a neutral court at Maples Pavilion, Arizona State volleyball came up short to No. 16 Cal in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday night.
 
Notable Stats
  • ASU drops to 10-6 on the year, 2-3 in Pac-12 play. Cal (14-1, 4-1 Pac-12) earned the win despite not being on its home court.
  • The match was originally scheduled to take place in Berkeley on Cal's home floor, but due to power outages, it was moved to Stanford and became a neutral site match.
  • Senior Jada Burse recorded her sixth match of the year with double-digit kills, reaching 13 to lead ASU. She hit a career-high .591 in the match.
  • Senior libero Courtney Leffel led all players in digs with 17.
  • The setters split the duties as usual. Callie Jones and Noa Miller both reached double figures in assists with 20 and 14, respectively. Miller earned her third double-double of the year with 10 digs.
  • Pin hitters Iman Isanovic and Andrea Mitrovic had nine kills each, with Isanovic chipping in three blocks and Mitrovic earning seven digs.

Set One: Cal 25, Arizona State 20
The Sun Devils trailed for the majority of the first set. An ace from Jones tied it up at 9-9, when the teams traded points for a bit. After they were knotted at 12-12, the Bears scored four in a row to take a 16-12 lead. With Cal at set point, ASU scored four in a row, capped off by a sharp-cross kill from Jeremic. However, the comeback fell short, dropping the first set 25-20.
 
Set 2: Cal 25, Arizona State 20
The Sun Devils had the lead for the majority of the set, holding Cal off despite only leading by two at most. The Bears took control after an 8-0 run got them to set point, 24-18. ASU scored two in a row to get to 20, but Cal closed out the set to win 25-20. Burse shone for the Sun Devils in the second set, earning six kills in this frame alone.
 
Set 3: Cal 25, Arizona State 19
In the final set, Cal led from start to finish. ASU kept it close, a kill from Burse keeping her team within one, down 10-9. That is when the Bears went on a 5-1 run to lead 15-10. Like the first set, the Sun Devils attempted a comeback with their opponents at set point, but came up short, losing 25-19.
