BUFFALO, NY – It's another first for Sun Devil Hockey in 2019, as goaltender Joey Daccord was named a 2018-19 AHCA/CCM Division I Second Team West All-American. He is the first player from ASU to earn All-America honors.
The North Andover, Mass. native is one of just four goaltenders to earn All-American honors, and one of two in the west with Minnesota Duluth's Hunter Shepard earning first-team honors.
"We're extremely proud of Joey and all he's accomplished to help elevate this program in just three years," said head coach Greg Powers. "As we've said all year, we always believed he was the best goaltender in college hockey and this is just additional feather in his cap as he transitions into his pro career. He's left a lasting impression on this program."
The Mike Richter finalist finished with a 21-13-1 record his junior year while playing 99% of ASU's minutes between the pipes – more than any other award finalist -- with a .926 save percentage and 2.35 goals against average. Over his three collegiate seasons, he posted a .913 save percentage in 82 games played.
Eight days ago, Daccord made his NHL debut for the Ottawa Senators in Buffalo, becoming the first player in Arizona State history to sign and play in the league.
