Sun Devils Finish Day One of Sun Angel ClassicSun Devils Finish Day One of Sun Angel Classic
TEMPE – The Sun Devil track and field program got off to a hot start at the 40th Sun Angel Classic Friday, sweeping the pole vault contests and placing several athletes in the top-five of their respective events.

Beatrice Llano picked up right where she left off two weeks ago when she finished as the top collegian in the women's premier hammer throw. She finished third overall with a heave of 68.69m/225-4 feet that came on her first attempt of the series.

Later in the afternoon, freshman Myka Steinbeisser punched her ticket to the premier section of the women's pole vault when she set a personal best of 3.77m/12-4.5 and won the open vault. She won't be the only Sun Devil in the premier section Saturday afternoon with Tommi Hintnaus also on the start list.

Michael Chadwick followed up in the men's contest by winning the open pole vault as well. By topping the table with a clearance of 4.96m/16-3.75 feet, Chadwick will jump again Saturday with teammate Matthew Eckles.

Josephine Anokye blazed to a third-place finish in the premier section of the women's 200 in a wind-legal season's best 23.65. Ian Kebenei also finished in the top-five with his fourth-place finish in the steeplechase in 9:14.48, good enough for a personal best.

The Sun Devils' home season will conclude tomorrow on the final day of the Sun Angel Classic.

All-Americans William Paulson, Jessica Barreira, Steven Champlin and NCAA champion Samantha Noennig will all lace up and headline the final day of competition, which gets going at 9 a.m.
