NEW ORLEANS – No. 14 Arizona State Women's Golf, battling through tough weather conditions, was able to improve by seven strokes between days one and two of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. The Sun Devils also moved up two places on the team leaderboard.
"We had a rough start today playing in very difficult conditions," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "We played in rain, 20 mph winds and mid-40 temperatures with wind chill, so we're struggling playing in rough weather. Having said that, we did improve upon yesterday's round by seven shots. Once this team starts believing they are capable of playing great golf, I believe great things will start happening."
ASU, in 14th place as a team, is just six strokes out of the top-10 and eight strokes out of the top-seven. The Sun Devils are in a pack of eight teams within eight strokes of each other.
Individually, Olivia Mehaffey remains the top Sun Devil in a four-way tie for 14th after two rounds of play. Alexandra Försterling is the next Sun Devil behind Mehaffey (T35).
Madison Kerley improved by 27 places between rounds while Sofia Anokhina moved up nearly 10 spots, cutting six and nine strokes off their second rounds, respectively.
Arizona State will be paired with No. 18 Washington and North Carolina on Tuesday in an 8 am CT/7 am MT shotgun start.
