TEMPE, Ariz. -- After splitting the series against Boston University, the No. 16/15 Sun Devils will conclude back-to-back east-coast road trips this weekend against Rochester Institute of Technology (12-9-3).
This will be the first series between Arizona State (17-10-1) and RIT in program history.
"What I told the guys after our game Saturday is that's the standard that they have to hold themselves accountable for these last six games," said head coach Greg Powers. "It's still the same mindset one game at a time, but if they can put in that type of 60-minute effort against a team as talented as BU, then they shouldn't expect anything less moving forward.
"They know what they need to do to be successful and at this point in the season for what we have to play for what's in front of us, we're there to support them. The coaches are there to guide them and put guys in situations that make them successful and at the end of the day they have to execute."
Senior Tiger forward Erik Brown and sophomore forward Jake Hamacher tallied five of the eight RIT goals last weekend in a sweep of Army. Captain forward Abbott Girduckis leads the Tigers with 27 points.
Sophomore netminder Logan Drackett has played in 21 of 24 games this season with a .913 save percentage, but fellow sophomore Ian Andriano took over between the pipes for Drackett in the series against Army. In the two wins, Andriano allowed just two goals per game and saved 65 of 69 shots faced.
The Sun Devil Hobey Baker Memorial Award nominees continue to shine for the Sun Devils.
Sophomore forward Johnny Walker scored twice in the win against BU for his 10th multi-point and sixth multi-goal night of the season. His 21st goal extends his lead to four atop the NCAA.
In the net, with seven shutouts this season, junior Joey Daccord is ranked sixth in the NCAA with a .930 save percentage and a 2.23 goals against average.
The new line of Anthony Croston, Dylan Hollman and Filips Buncis sparked the fire in each game against BU, as Buncis found Croston on Friday night for a goal and Croston repaid the favor on Saturday. The two are on two-game point streaks because of it with one goal and one assist.
Five different Devils have 12 assists this season including freshman defenseman Joshua Maniscalco. Maniscalco is one of five Sun Devil freshmen with 12 or more points, making ASU the only program with five or more rookies recording that many points this season.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (EST) both Friday and Saturday night. The games will be streamed on Atlantic Hockey here.
