SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 has signed a three-year deal with the Maverik Center in West Valley, Utah, to hold the Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Championships, beginning with the 2019 event.
"This is very exciting for Pac-12 gymnastics," Arizona State head coach Jay Santos said. "Being able to host our championships at a neutral site on a podium will definitely elevate the student-athlete experience as well as the experience and atmosphere for our fans. Thank you to the Maverick Center for working with us to make this happen."
This is the first time the gymnastics championships will be at a neutral site in the history of the conference. The Utah Sports Commission and Visit Salt Lake will work with the Pac-12 and Maverik Center to create a successful event. The Maverik Center has hosted a number of marquee events over its 20-year history. It can seat over 9,000 for women's gymnastics. Located in the Salt Lake Valley, the site will accommodate the championships on the third weekend in March for the next three seasons.
Arizona State will be coming off of a strong 2018 season. The Sun Devils finished in second place in the first session of the 2018 Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Championships. They advanced to NCAA Regionals, where Cairo Leonard-Baker qualified as an individual in the all-around for nationals.
