SURPRISE, Ariz. – Two men and two women are set to take the court at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex for the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. Tim Ruehl is set to compete in the singles bracket in tandem with Benjamin Hannestad in doubles, while Ilze Hattingh and Lauryn John-Baptiste will be a doubles tandem on the women's side..
The five-day event is set to kick off on Wed. November 7 and will conclude on Sun. November 11. Featuring some of the top collegiate tennis players in the country, the championship serves as the culminating event for the fall portion of the college tennis season.
The men will send Ruehl to compete in the event, who held down court four for the Sun Devils for the majority of last season. The German notched a team-high four match clinching points, including an upset victory over No. 87 Logan Staggs of UCLA. He will combine powers with Hannestad, as the two were ranked the No. 50 doubles pair in the preseason Oracle/ITA poll.
The Sun Devil women will send No. 8 John-Baptiste/Hattingh to the tournament in Surprise. The All-American duo advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal last season in their first Sun Devil campaign. John-Baptiste led the line of ASU last season as the team's No. 1 and Hattingh played alongside her doubles partner on court two. The two of them debuted in the ITA singles rankings as well with John-Baptiste coming in at No. 46 and Hattingh slotting in at 121.
The Championships men's and women's singles finals will stream live on ESPN3 and the ESPN App on Sunday, kicking off at 11 a.m. MST with the women's final. TempuZ will provide live streaming coverage from two courts at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
