LAST TIME OUT (SEPT. 30-OCT. 2): Arizona State finished second behind hot-shooting Northwestern at the Marquette Intercollegiate held at the Erin Hills Golf Course (par-72/7,869 yards), the site of the 2017 U.S. Open. ASU finished at 4-under 860 (287-291-282) while Northwestern shot 12-under 276 in the final round Tuesday to finish at 6-under 858 (286-296-276). This marked the second straight tournament ASU had finished second to start the year, as it took second at the Maui Jim Invitational Sept. 21-23 in Scottsdale. Junior Alex del Rey -- who posted 37 pars, 11 birdies and one eagle in 54 holes -- finished second. The only player to shoot under par in each round, del Rey finished at 7-under 209 (69-70-70). It marked the seventh top-10 finish for del Rey in his Sun Devil career and the second-best finish of his career, as he won the 2017 Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
2017 MAUI JIM INTERCOLLEGIATE (SEPT. 21-23): Georgia Tech took home the team title and Bryson Nimmer of Clemson earned the individual trophy at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate held at Mirabel Golf Course in Scottsdale, the first event of the 2018-19 @SunDevilMGolf season. ASU (265-272-277) shot 26-under 814 and finished second behind Tech's 28-under 812 (265-274-273). Nimmer (67-63-65) shot 15-under 195 to top Chun An Yu's 13-under 197 (65-64-68).
THAT 2016 TITLE: Arizona State came back on the final day with an 11-under 273 to win the 2016 Alister MacKenzie Invitational, while senior Ki Taek Lee earned co-medalist honors with a 15-under 198 (66-64-68). The victory marked the first of head coach Matt Thurmond's ASU tenure in just his second tournament. The team win ended California's dominance as it had won its own tournament the past seven years. ASU shot 30-under on the par-5 holes and had five eagles to lead the tournament in both categories, with Lee and senior Jared du Toit carding two each and Blake Wagoner the other.
