The Arizona State men's golf team finished second behind hot-shooting Northwestern at the Marquette Intercollegiate held at the Erin Hills Golf Course (par-72/7,869 yards), the site of the 2017 U.S. Open.
ASU finished at 4-under 860 (287-291-282) while Northwestern shot 12-under 276 in the final round Tuesday to finish at 6-under 858 (286-296-276). This marked the second straight tournament ASU had finished second to start the year, as it took second at the Maui Jim Invitational Sept. 21-23 in Scottsdale.
Junior Alex del Rey -- who posted 37 pars, 11 birdies and one eagle in 54 holes -- finished second behind Ryan Lumsden of Northwestern, as Lumsden carded an 8-under 208 (73-68-67). The only player to shoot under par in each round, del Rey finished at 7-under 209 (69-70-70). Lumsden also was a co-medalist in 2016 with a 3-under 207. It marked the seventh top-10 finish for del Rey in his Sun Devil career and the second-best finish of his career, as he won the 2017 Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Freshman Cameron Sisk finished at 6-over 222 (76-73-73) and tied for 30th.
Both Chun An Yu and Won Jun Lee missed the event as they are competing in the Asia-Pacific Amateur in Singapore.
THE TEAMS: The Sun Devils competed against 10 teams from six conferences, as host Marquette was joined by Iowa, McNeese State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Northwestern, UC Davis, Utah and Wisconsin.
NEXT UP: ASU wil travel to Fairfax, Calif., to compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational Oct. 8-9. ASU won the event in the fall of 2016 in Coach Matt Thurmond's second tournament as Sun Devil coach. Ki Taek Lee earned co-medalist honors that season, while Max Rottluff won the event Oct. 13-14, 2014.
