PHOENIX – The Sun Devil Baseball team will take part in a fall scrimmage against members of the Texas Rangers organization on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz.
First pitch for the contest will take place at 6 p.m. PT and gates to the stadium will open at 5 p.m. Admission is free of charge to all fans planning on attending.
The event will also aim to help raise awareness for research toward Alzheimer's disease and Dementia. Volunteers from the 4MOM charity will be on hand to provide information and will be accepting charitable donations.
4MOM is a charitable fund dedicated to helping people and families with Alzheimer's/Dementia. 4MOM is in partnership with Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles. With the dedication of community and volunteers, the organization strives to improve the lives of those in need with the disease.
The 4MOM charity was conceived by top Seattle Mariners prospect Braden Bishop during his time with the Washington Huskies after his mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. Hunter Bishop, Braden's brother, is a two-year starter for the Sun Devil program and has joined his brother in raising awareness for the cause. "We are thrilled with the opportunity to play against ASU this fall. The history of the program both in the college game and sprinkled all over the MLB is something unique to college baseball and something we are excited to be a part of in 2018 and beyond," said Paul Kruger, Assistant Director of Player Development for the Rangers organization. "Additionally, to participate in a cause such as 4MOM with ASU and the community makes this a great fit for what the Texas Rangers organization is all about."
The Rangers squad for the scrimmage will feature a combination of players from the team's Instructional and Fall League programs.
The scrimmage against the Rangers will be one of two Fall events hosted by the Sun Devils, who will also take on CSUN on October 27 in Phoenix. More details for that event are forthcoming.
