FRANKLIN, Tenn. – After one round of play in their season-opening tournament, Arizona State women's golf is in second place at Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Women's Championship.
"We played well today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "I love this golf course because it rewards good shots and we're looking forward to two more days of competition."
As a team, a 9-under 279 was the 13th lowest 18-hole team score vs. par in Sun Devil women's golf history.
Individually, two Sun Devils are in the top-10 with three in the top-15 led by junior Olivia Mehaffey, currently in a tie for fourth after shooting a 4-under 68 on the day.
Sophomore Raquel Olmos nearly matched her career low, shooting a 69 and sitting in a tie for sixth-place. Senior/graduate student Madison Kerley is tied for 13th with a 2-under 70, her lowest score since the third tournament of last season.
Senior transfer Sofia Anokhina and freshman Alexandra Försterling shot a 72 and 75, respectively on the day.
Due to weather in the area, the schedule has changed in hopes of playing the final two rounds (36 holes) on Saturday.
Round two will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 am CT/6:30 am PT playing in foursomes (ASU is paired with Vanderbilt, Clemson, and Auburn). Round three will begin at the conclusion of round two around 1:30 pm CT/11:30 am PT with teams playing in the same foursome pairs.
