TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State Lacrosse program saw a pair of student-athletes earn a spot on the IWLCA 2018 Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll, as announced Monday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
In their inaugural season as a Division I program, Sun Devil Lacrosse was recognized as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad for the 2017-18 academic year. The team must have posted a 3.0 GPA or higher for the academic year to qualify for this significant honor. The Sun Devils are one of 95 Division I teams to receive this distinction. ASU was one of five Pac-12 schools to receive Academic Honors as a team.
Gregory, a sustainability major, was a team captain and started all 18 games after transferring from Hofstra University. She became an important piece to the Sun Devils defensive identity. Gregory finished tied for third on the team with 22 ground balls, causing the second most turnovers with 13. She recorded 21 draw controls while taking care of the ball, accounting for only eight turnovers despite substantial playing time.
Joining Gregory on the Academic Honor Roll is Business Communications major Sydney Bosmans. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State in the Spring of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Bosmans played in 15 games, starting seven of them, after transferring from Shepard University. She finished the season with seven ground balls, causing five turnovers.
Both defenders return to the Sun Devils, looking to improve their game under Head Coach Courtney Martinez Connor and newly hired Assistant Coach Caroline Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was a three-time All-American defender during her playing career at the University of Florida, also working with the defensive unit in her one season as an assistant at Drexel.
