SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sun Devils punched two more tickets to Eugene, Oregon, on the second day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.

The first Sun Devil to advance was one of the newest members in Alethia Marrero. A graduate transfer from Indiana State, Marrero is no stranger to the national spotlight, having competed for the Sycamores at the East Prelims and the NCAA Championships over the past few seasons.

Marrero advanced out of the fastest heat of the three quarterfinal sections. She finished fourth, but clocked the fifth-fastest time of the day when she crossed the line in 2:03.15.

In the field, just after Marrero secured a lane at Hayward Field, Magdalyn Ewen made it two-for-two in appearances as she got through to the NCAA Championships in the discus with a throw of 59.37m/194-9 feet.

Ewen already advanced in the shot put along with Samantha Noennig Thursday, and she'll return to Hornet Stadium for the hammer throw Saturday with fellow Sun Devil Kaylee Antill taking to the ring as well.

Shaunie Morrison got through to Saturday's 100-meter hurdles regional final on time as she ran 13.64 in the first heat of the prelim.

Saturday marks the conclusion of the Preliminary Rounds. ASU has five athletes competing for places in the Championships, including Ewen, Antill, Morrison, Mason Ford and Elijah Hughes.

The two men will compete in the high jump competition. Hughes is making his second-consecutive regional appearance, while Ford is making his first.
