SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 women's tennis conference honors were announced Tuesday and three Sun Devils featured on the list, including true freshman Lauryn John-Baptiste who earned a second-team honor for her debut campaign in Tempe.
John-Baptiste's first season in maroon and gold saw her playing on court one for a majority of ASU's dual-match schedule. She clinched four matches and ended her season at No. 61 in the ITA singles rankings and as an alternate for the NCAA Singles Championships.
She and Ilze Hattingh earned a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championships later this month as the No. 12 tandem in the country with a 17-1 record. Their only loss came against No. 7 Hart/Fleming of UCLA, but the Sun Devil duo avenged their sole loss during the Pac-12 tournament when the two squads met in the semifinal round.
Hattingh also found herself on the all-conference list as an honorable mention selection with senior Nicole Fossa Huergo.
Hattingh and Fossa Huergo played on courts two and three for the Devils and the latter clinched three conference matches for ASU, including two over Southern California in Los Angeles and in the Pac-12 quarterfinal.
The three all-conference honorees, along with Savannah Slaysman, Sasa Klanecek and Tereza Kolarova will take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Athens, Georgia, regional this Friday at 9 a.m.
