SEATTLE – Following the first round of the 2018 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships, No. 11 Arizona State fought their way to a tie for third-place as a team, four strokes ahead of No. 9 Arizona.
"I am so proud of the fight and grit this team has," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Sophia is not at 100 percent yet due to her recent sprained ankle and today was her first competitive round back. Olivia played through a terrible stomach flu and at the turn, I still was not sure she would finish her round. We hung tough all knowing that we may only have four players complete the round."
Playing with a stomach flu, Olivia Mehaffey earned a place in the top five, tied for fourth through the first 18 holes, shooting a 3-under 69 on the day.
Madison Kerley was the second-finishing Sun Devil, in a tie for 14th, shooting a one-over 73. Raquel Olmos shot a two-over 74 and is tied for 20th while Roberta Liti shot a 3-over 75 to sit just outside the top-25 (T27).
No. 1 UCLA and No. 4 Stanford currently hold the top two spots while No. 6 USC and No. 25 Colorado are tied with ASU. The Sun Devils also had the second-most birdies (20) behind UCLA's 22.
"This is a great golf course that rewards good shot making and we look forward to coming back out tomorrow to compete."
On Monday, Arizona State tees off with USC, teeing off at the following times (all times PT):
10:10 am – Sophia Zeeb
