PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Sun Devil baseball team fell to the No. 19 UNLV, 10-3, in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
 
Sophomore right-hander Alec Marsh got his third start for the Sun Devils and held UNLV titles through the first two innings. Marsh would go on to pitch a career-long five innings, allowing three runs while striking out four batters.
 
A single from Drew Swift would get the two-run third inning started for ASU. Swift advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring later in the inning on a towering sacrifice fly from Spencer Torkelson that got the Phoenix Municipal Stadium crowd to their feet. Carter Aldrete singled up the middle to drive in Gage Canning, who reached base after being hit by a pitch. The RBI-single from Aldrete now gives him four straight games with hits and an RBI, this one cutting the Rebels lead to 3-2.
 
Reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week, Gage Canning, continued his brilliant play with a double to right field to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Canning has now registered a hit in 20 of 21 games this season and has reached base in every game. The Sun Devils would tie up the game with thanks to a tremendous piece of hitting from Spencer Torkelson. The freshman showed a mature approach, scoring Gage Canning on a RBI-single to right field. The two-RBI performance marked the seventh multi-RBI game for Torkelson on the year.
 
Right-hander Fitz Stadler gave the Arizona State pitching staff a strong boost, coming into the game in relief of Alec Marsh. Stadler would proceed to immediately strike out the side, shifting the momentum into the Sun Devils dugout. Stadler would record two more outs in the eight, before giving way to four different relievers who completed the final 2.1 innings.

The Rebels would take the lead for good with a four-run eighth, tacking on three runs in the final frame.
 
The Sun Devil Baseball Program honored the 1988 team that would go to win 60 games and finish as the runner up at the 1988 College World Series.
 
Up next: The Sun Devils head to Los Angeles to take on UCLA in a three-game series. The series is set to begin Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m.

  • Since going 5-for-28 (.179) through his first eight games, Carter Aldrete is 17-for-45 (.377) in his last 12 games
  • Freshman Alika Williams is riding a season-long six game hitting streak
  • Lyle Lin has hit safely in 20 of 21 games this season
  • Hunter Jump is 6-for-12 (.500) over his last seven games
