TEMPE – The Sun Devil women's tennis team got back to winning ways Friday as they swept the San Diego State Aztecs, 4-0, at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

The victory started with another signature dominant doubles performance as the Devils won on courts one and two to quickly take the point from the Aztecs.

"We came out and won the doubles point pretty quickly, which was nice, but I told the girls, 'San Diego State is going to play a lot better in singles,' and they did," coach Sheila McInerney said. "You have to expect a tough match against everyone and any time."

Lauryn John-Baptiste and Ilze Hattingh kept their unbeaten streak alive when the blanked Moinard/Mulbarger, and Fossa Huergo/Kolarova won their second match in three outings as a tandem on court one, 6-1.

Although Slaysman/Klanecek didn't get to finish their match on court three, the duo was up 4-2 before Fossa Huergo/Kolarova clinched the point for ASU.

The doubles point meant ASU only needed to take three of the six singles matches, and the Devils started fast by taking the first set on four of the courts.

Hattingh was the first Sun Devil off the court. She defeated San Diego State's No. 2-player Aubets, and only dropped one game in the process, winning 6-0, 6-1. It was the South Africa international's second win since the shift to court two.

"Ilze getting off the court as fast as she did really helped," McInerney said. "She had a lot of energy today and I think that really helped the team because a couple of the girls were kind of flat today, even in doubles."

On court one, No. 84 John-Baptiste recorded her third win since moving up to court one as she downed Buth in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

With just one more point to go to clinch the match, the remaining Sun Devils found themselves in dogfights on courts three and four. Fossa Huergo had dropped her first set to Diaz de Regules, but was tied in the second set 5-5, and Kolarova on court six was up 2-1 in the third set.

Once again, though, true freshman Sasa Klanecek came through with another win, this time on court five. It extended her unbeaten streak to nine matches, and brought her to 8-0 on the season in dual-match play.

"I was pleased with how Sasa played, today," McInerney said. "She played a good player and she came through in a couple deuce games at the end to win it."

Klanecek won 6-1, 6-4 over Nadozie to clinch the match for ASU move them to 6-3 on the season and a perfect 5-0 at home, bringing ASU's home non-conference record to 42-3 since 2013.

The Devils don't have much time to bask in the spoils of victory as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos make their way to Tempe tomorrow at noon.

"We've got a tough one tomorrow with Santa Barbara," McInerney said. "We'll have to play a little bit better tomorrow if we want to beat them. We have to be ready. They're well-coached and they're going to be feisty."

The Gauchos will be coming into the match having just swept Arizona, 4-0, in Tucson, and already have a big win this year over No. 32 Southern California.
