TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State baseball team dropped game two of its three-game series against Saint Mary's, 6-5, Saturday afternoon at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Sun Devil (2-4) offense broke out in the second inning, recording seven consecutive hits and five total runs in the frame. Freshman phenom first baseman Spencer Torkelson got the rally started with a solo blast to left field for his fourth home run of the young season, a feat that no Sun Devil accomplished until the 29th game of last season. It also marked Torkelson's sixth RBI of the season.

Torkelson's home run cut ASU's deficit to just two runs, as the Gaels still led 3-1.

Following Torkelson, designated hitter Gage Workman ripped a single to left field. Right fielder Hunter Bishop then singled to center, but Workman was thrown out trying to take third base on the play. Next up, left fielder Trevor Hauver drove in Bishop with an RBI single to left field after a lengthy at bat. Hauver eventually advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on freshman Alika Williams first career hit and RBI. The second baseman stepped up in a big moment and ripped a single up the middle, driving in Hauver to tie the game at 3-3.

Center fielder Gage Canning continued his torrid pace to start the season, ripping his 17 career triple to left-center field, driving in Williams and giving the Sun Devils their first lead of the game at 4-3. Canning is the NCAA's active career leader in triples and needs just three to move into ASU's all-time top-five in the category.

Shortstop Drew Swift then executed a spectacular bunt for a base hit, which scored Canning to give ASU a 5-3 lead. The freshman has now reached in every game he has played as a Sun Devil.

In addition to the offensive explosion in the bottom of the second, the Sun Devils also received a solid showing from senior left-handed pitcher Eli Lingos, who turned in an impressive performance on the mound. Although he got off to a rocky start — allowing four hits and three runs in the top of the first — he quickly found his grove and was dealing for the remainder of his outing.

Lingos finished with five strikeouts and allowed just four hits after the first inning. He also retired 11 consecutive batters between the second inning and the sixth.

Bishop also contributed to that hitless stretch for Saint Mary's, flashing the leather in right field time and time again. Bishop was able to rob several Gaels hitters of extra bases, displaying great reaction and range.

Trevor Hauver recorded his second career multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI. Lyle Lin and Gage Canning remain the only players that have a hit in each game this season.

The Sun Devils wrap up their series with the Gaels on Sunday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. game at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Check out the action by tuning into the live stream that can be accessed online via Pac-12 Plus.
