SEATTLE - No. 25 Arizona State had four players finish in double figures but the Sun Devils were unable to complete another second half comeback on Thursday in Seattle. Washington was able to hang on for a 68-64 victory despite seeing its 13-point lead evaporate late.
Some early shooting struggles plagued Arizona State (16-6, 4-6 Pac-12) in the first half, but a strong final few possessions for forward De'Quon Lake gave the visitors some momentum heading into the locker rooms.
Lake scored on each of the final three trips down the floor, the last of which came on a vicious putback dunk to pull his team within 37-27 at the halftime break. Lake would finish the night with nine points in nine minutes of play.
It didn't take long for the Sun Devils to parlay that momentum into second half success.
Bobby Hurley's team opened the second stanza on a 12-2 run to pull even at 39-39, and when Kodi Justice hit from deep with seven and a half minutes remaining, Arizona State had its first lead of the night at 51-50.
The game went back-and-forth from there as the lead exchanged hands three more times down the stretch.
It was the Huskies (16-6, 6-3), however, who had the advantage last, getting a couple of stops and free throws in the final seconds to hold on for a 68-64 victory.
Four Sun Devils finished the night in double figures. Justice ultimately led the way with 16 points, while fellow senior Shannon Evans II followed closely behind with 13.
Arizona State now sets its sights on a trip to Pullman, where it will look to bounce back on Super Bowl Sunday against Washington State. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. (MST) and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
