Ewen, Riddle Highlight First Day in NebraskaEwen, Riddle Highlight First Day in Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. – Sun Devil senior Magdalyn Ewen already owned Arizona State's indoor shot put record coming into Friday's Husker Invitational, but the Minnesota native added another school record to her list of accomplishments to cap off an eventful evening in Lincoln.

Ewen secured a comfortable lead in the weight throw after her second attempt with the 20-pound instrument, and held on to first place for the rest of the competition. Her fifth attempt made history, as she heaved the weight more than 72 feet to set the Sun Devil record.

That record only lasted a few minutes as she supplanted it with another monster throw in her sixth and final attempt and staked her claim in ASU history with a mark of 22.22m/72-11.00 feet.

The throw moves the 2017 Bowerman Award finalist to sixth in the NCAA this season, and keeps her atop the MPSF table with less than a month to go until the conference championships in Seattle.

Kaylee Antill threw herself into the conference championships conversation with her huge PR in the weight throw of 19.27m/63-2.75 feet. The sophomore's final attempt of the day moved her from ninth place to third in the competition, and into the top-four in the MPSF this season.

Continuing a trend so far this indoor season, freshman standout Cole Riddle found himself in a dual for the men's pole vault title at the Husker Invitational with former Big Ten champion Jeff Coover.

Riddle and Coover were the only two men left in the competition after the bar had been moved to 5.32m/17-5.50 feet, and both came close to topping 5.49m/18-0.00 feet, but couldn't clear the height with their three attempts.

The mark of 5.32m, however, moved Riddle up the school record list for the third time this season, from seventh to a tie for fourth with 2017 all-MPSF honoree Garrett Starkey. It is the No. 2 mark in the conference this season and the second-best mark by a freshman in the NCAA in 2018.

Senior speedster Shaunie Morrison cruised to the final in the women's 60-meter hurdles with her time of 8.39 seconds, three-hundredths of a second off her adjusted season's best from Northern Arizona just under a month ago.

Morrison won the second heat of the prelim and secured the top-seed heading into Saturday's final with the fastest time of the day. Alexandra Williams nearly advanced to the final with her time of 8.80, but was the first woman out as she was out-gained by one-thousandth of a second.

Later in the evening in the 400-meter dash, Sha'Maya Flanagan won her heat by two seconds and finished third overall when she crossed the line in 55.28 seconds. The time was the fastest by a Devil this season.

The men's 400 saw newcomer Khalil Parris win the third section of the event in 49.06. He out-legged Malik Metivier of Drake by less than a tenth of second and finished seventh overall.

Morrison, Ewen and Flanagan all return to action Saturday for the final day of competition at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, along with a group of other Sun Devil men and women. the action gets started in Lincoln at 8:30 a.m. with the completion of the heptathlon and wraps up after the 4x400-meter relays at approximately 4 p.m.
