STILLWATER, Okla. – Sun Devil senior Nicole Fossa Huergo scored a tough three-set win over a ranked opponent to give Arizona State (2-1, 0-0 Pac-12) its second win of the season over No. 24 TCU (2-2, 0-0 Big 12), 4-1, Saturday at the ITA Kickoff's final day.

"I'm really proud of our team for gutting this match out," coach Sheila McInerney said. "The match was a dogfight and was much closer than the 4-1 score indicates."

Just like Friday's matchup against Oklahoma State, the Sun Devils took the doubles point, winning two of the three matches.

The Devils' duo of Klanecek/Fossa Huergo gave ASU the leg-up when they made easy work of Zenovka/Norris, 6-1. No. 28 Slaysman/Kolarova got into a hole early and couldn't come back against Bashota/Tedford on court one, so the point came down to court two for the second-straight day.

John-Baptiste/Hattingh found themselves in a back-and-forth match with Cveticanin/Roberts and managed to force a tiebreak despite playing catch-up for the last few sets. The Sun Devil tandem hit their stride at the right time, though as they cruised in the tiebreaker to win the set and clinch the point for ASU, 7-3.

In singles play, TCU got out to a hot start, taking one-set leads on three of the six courts before the Sun Devils also stormed back on courts two, three and six and Lauryn John-Baptiste rolled to get the Sun Devils' first singles point.

She defeated No. 59 Aleksandra Zenovka handily, 6-1, 6-3, moving her spring record to a team-leading 5-1.

After Savannah Slaysman was defeated on court five, the Horned Frogs made things interesting as three of the four remaining games appeared to be heading toward third sets.

Sasa Klanecek had a dominant performance on court six as she took down Meredith Roberts in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 to push the ASU lead to 3-1.

It came down to court three where Nicole Fossa Huergo traded 6-4 sets with No. 71 Aleksa Cvaticanin before the two tied the third set at five games apiece.

Fossa Huergo won two straight games to clinch the win and the dual match for the Sun Devils for their second win of the season.

"To bounce back after yesterday's tough loss to beat a very good TCU team will pay dividends for us down the road," McInerney said.

The 4-1 victory over the Horned Frogs was ASU's first win over a ranked opponent this season, but it won't be their last match up with a top-25 squad as the Sun Devils' schedule is loaded with talent in 2018.

"This weekend was a great learning experience for our young team and I'm so proud of their grit today," McInerney said.

The next outing for the Devils will be this Friday when they host UNLV at the Whiteman Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. MST.
