STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 25 Arizona State women's basketball team was unable to sweep its regular season series against Stanford for the third time in four seasons after falling to the Cardinal 74-50 on Friday night.

The Sun Devils (14-7, 5-4 Pac-12), who defeated Stanford 73-66 in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 7, were outscored by the Cardinal 24-14 in the second quarter and 20-10 in the fourth quarter of Friday's rematch.

Robbi Ryan led the Sun Devils with 11 points while Sophia Elenga added eight. ASU shot 37 percent for the game and had an especially difficult time from long range where it made only one of 12 attempts.

Stanford (13-8, 7-2) connected on 49 percent of its field goals and outrebounded ASU 33-27. Brittany McPhee (24 points), Marta Sniezek (13 points) and DiJonai Carrington (13) combined for 50 of Stanford's 74 points. The Cardinal made 61 percent (17-28) of their field goals in the aforementioned second and fourth quarters.

Stanford scored the game's first six points but the Sun Devils would respond by scoring seven of the next eight points capped off by Ryan's 3-point play. ASU would get within one point three times in the first quarter but was never able to take the lead or pull even.

A 12-0 run by Stanford gave the Cardinal a 25-12 lead early in the second quarter.

ASU would get within single digits on two occasions before halftime, but Stanford would eventually reclaim a double-digit lead and went to the break with a 41-26 advantage.

Trailing by 19 points late in the third quarter the Sun Devils used an 9-2 run to get within 12 after Ryan's 3-point play with 45 seconds left. ASU could pull no closer as the Cardinal used a 15-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Charnea Johnson-Chapman led ASU's rebounding effort with seven. Jamie Ruden added four boards to go with her six points.

Ryan's 11-point outing represented the third time she has led ASU in scoring in the last five games. Earlier this month she tied her career high with 19 points at Oregon State (Jan. 12). Last week she had 16 in the Sun Devils' contest against Utah.

With the loss the Sun Devils dropped into a tie for sixth place in the Pac-12 standings with Utah (14-6, 5-4). Both teams trail fourth-place Oregon State (15-5, 6-3) and Cal (15-5, 6-3) by one game and are a game up on eighth-place USC (14-6, 4-5).

The Sun Devils return to action on Sunday (3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT) when they play at No. 23 Cal. The game can be seen on Pac-12 Arizona/Bay Area and heard on NBC Sports Radio AM 1060.
