MESA, Ariz. – In a solid position to move up after day one, the No. 4 Arizona State women's golf team moved into the team lead following the second round of competition at the Clover Cup.
The Sun Devils shot their lowest round of the season as a team (275), now 20 strokes under par for the tournament. Houston moved into second (-14) while No. 2 Florida State (-13) is in third.
"Days like today don't surprise me, because I believe this team is capable of going low," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "These young ladies know how to be strong and finish well. Every single player fought to finish well and, because of that, we are in a solid position going into the final round against very good teams."
Three of the top four individuals are now also Sun Devils, as Monica Vaughn moved into second (-7) followed by Linnea Strom (-5) and Sophia Zeeb in a tie for third. Olivia Mehaffey (-3/T9) is also in the top-10 while Roberta Liti (+2/T24) moved into the top-25.
Zeeb's five-under-par 67 set a new career low for the second straight tournament while Mehaffey equaled her career lowest round (69).
Playing as an individual, Madison Kerley shot 71 (-1) to move into a tie for 14th, matching her second lowest round of the season.
Round three will be played Sunday with the Sun Devils teeing off as part of an 8 a.m. shotgun start on holes 1-3 alongside Houston and Florida State. Live stats for the weekend are available here: https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/32625/.
