TEMPE, Ariz. – Brooke Dalgai, a senior computer science major at ASU, is the recipient of this year's Ryneldi Becenti Award. Dalgai will be presented with the award during the Sun Devil women's basketball team's Native American Day Game vs. Colgate on Sunday (game time is 3 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena).
A member of ASU's Barrett, the Honors College, Dalgai had the honor of representing ASU as its Miss Indian ASU 2015-16. Her platform was bringing awareness to domestic violence. One of Delgai's favorite moments as Miss Indian ASU was meeting the former First Lady Michelle Obama in Washington, D.C. She is the current ASU chapter leader of I Am That Girl that promotes women empowerment and self-love. Dalgai, who is currently employed by Apple, studied abroad in Italy during the summer of 2016. The daughter of Sandra and Patrick Dalgai, Brooke hails from St. Michaels, Ariz.
The first Sun Devil women's basketball player to have her jersey hung from the rafters of Wells Fargo Arena and a member of the Sun Devil Sports Hall of Fame, Becenti will be in attendance on Sunday to present the award named in her honor.
Sun Devil Athletics worked in collaboration with the ASU Office of American Indian Initiatives Office (OAII) to establish the award in Becenti's honor in 2016. The OAII used the following criteria to determine the recipient of the award:
