TEMPE, Ariz. -- According to a national hockey recruiting site NeutralZone.net, the updated top-10 recruiting classes for 2017-18 includes the Arizona State Sun Devils. At one point within the last year, the Devils were ranked as high as No. 12, but fell to No. 17 before vaulting into the top-10 for the first time in program history.

Head coach Greg Powers and his staff were listed at No. 9, ahead of 2017 Big Ten champion Penn State, Hockey East powerhouse Boston College, 2017 Frozen Four runner-up Minnesota-Duluth, and 2017 tournament qualifiers Harvard, Notre Dame and UMass-Lowell to name a few.

The eight programs in front of them included North Dakota, Boston University, UMass-Amherst, Minnesota, Denver, Vermont, Michigan and Minnesota State -- three of which the Sun Devils will face in 2017-18. ASU welcomes UMass-Amherst in week one of the season on Oct. 6-7 at Oceanside Ice Arena. The Devils swept the Minutemen in Amherst a season ago, taking both meetings by a score of 4-1.

The 2017-18 incoming class is littered with elite talent. Eight freshmen will don a Pitchfork for the first time, including Jacob Wilson, Dominic Garcia, Filips Buncis, Johnny Walker, Gvido Jansons, Gage Mackie, Mike DePhillips and Austin Lemieux

Both Wilson and Jansons are listed among the top-25 among 1997-born players, according to Neutral Zone. Walkerm, a Phoenix-native, comes in at No. 45 in the field of 1996-born players, while Garcia is ranked at No. 48.

Fans first opportunity to get a look at this year's 9th-ranked recruiting class will be on Sept. 30, as the Devils host an exhibition game against Northern Alberta Institute of Technology at Oceanside Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m.
