TEMPE -- Arizona State University's head volleyball coach Sanja Tomasevic announced on Tuesday that Kyle Breitbarth will join the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Breitbarth joins the Sun Devils after previously serving as a volunteer assistant at Loyola University Chicago under the direction of head coach Chris Muscat. During his one-year tenure at Loyola (Ill.) Breitbarth served the program in a number of facets including scouting analysis, skill development, live coding and travel logistics. Breitbarth most notably worked extensively with the team's defensive unit, featuring libero Maddy Moser who finished fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference in digs/set (4.55) while earning the league's player of the week honors for the week of September 6.
Prior to his stint at Loyola, Breitbarth gained coaching experience at the prep level, coaching at Champaign Central High School and Edison Middle School in Champaign, Illinois from 2013-16. During his time at the respective institutions, Breitbarth helped the lead the programs to a cumulative 118-44 overall record and appearances in four regional championships, two sectional championships, and two state championship series.
Prior to entering coaching, Breitbarth competed as a member of the University of Illinois men's club volleyball team from 2010-16. Boasting a prolific collegiate career donning the Illini blue and orange, he was a member of the 2013 NCVF University of Illinois national championship team, while helping propel the squad to a Big Ten championship and program-best 71-11 record in 2016.
Breitbarth earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism in 2014, while also recently earning a masters of education degree in 2016, each from the University of Illinois.
