Freshmen Complete @ASUMensGolf Season; Final Numbers For Our Captain

While Jared du Toit's Sun Devil career came to a close on Sunday after three rounds at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, freshmen Chun An Yu and Alejandro Del Rey Gonzalez made the cut and closed out promising freshman seasons on Monday at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course in Sugar Groves, Ill.

Chun Yu put the finishing touches on a solid freshman season that started in January with an even-par 288 in Illinois. On a day where 84 rounds produced an average score of 77.25, he fired a 1-over 73 with two birdies Monday. His even-par final score tied for the fourth-best by a freshman at the finals. His 71.61 stroke average is the second-best for a freshman in Sun Devil history, behind only Jon Rahm's 71.37 in 2012-13. Del Rey Gonzalez ended with a 72.14 stroke average, fifth-best by a freshman in Sun Devil history.

With a dozen appearances Del Rey Gonzalez is now primed for a great sophomore season, as he tied for fifth at the NCAA Austin Regional, leading ASU to its 31st NCAA Championship in the past 34 seasons. He also tied for eighth at the National Invitational. In 37 rounds, he averaged 71.14 strokes, fifth-best by a freshman in Sun Devil history.

Named captain in the fall, du Toit notched eight top-10 finishes on the year, including five top-five finishes that included winning The Prestige at PGA West after losing in a playoff at the Amer Ari Invitational. He finished his season with a 70.38 stroke average and is 27 career events (83 rounds)
