STANFORD, Calif. – On Friday evening, three Sun Devil distance runners participated in the Stanford Invitational at the Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Seniors CJ Albertson, Chelsey Albertson and Adriana Olivas ran in three separate events, with two of them running what would have been the top times in the country.

"It was great to compete at this high-level distance meet," said distance coach Louie Quintana. "I was proud of our efforts. CJ looked a little rusty over the hurdles, but otherwise was in control and there is much more there.

"The story of the night was Chelsey Albertson. Her improvement is a testament to consistent, hard work and a commitment to living the elite distance runner lifestyle. To be quite honest, Chelsey is just scratching the surface. This has and will continue to be a fun ride."

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, CJ clocked a time of 8:48.24, which was over a second faster than the top time in the country entering the weekend. However, he finished fourth among collegiate competitors in the event. His time was three seconds off his personal best that he ran last season.

His better half, Chelsey, ran in the women's 5,000-meter event and placed eighth in the field of 21. Her time of 15:53.07 moved her into fourth on the ASU all-time list ahead of All-American Lisa Aguilera – who owned the NCAA record in the 3k steeple and later American Record Holder in the steeple and was a World Championship qualifier.

Similar to CJ, Chelsey's time was the second-best nationally in comparison to past times this season.

Both of their times will likely qualify them for the NCAA West Regional when comparing to last year's qualifying times.

Also participating in the women's 5,000-meter event was Olivas, who ran a time of 17:45.21.
