MESA, Ariz. – The No. 4 Sun Devil women's golf team not only had their best three-round team score but won their second tournament of the season Sunday at the Clover Cup hosted by Notre Dame. The victory marked ASU's fifth top-three tournament finish of the season thus far.
"I am really proud of how this team competed this week," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "We continue to work to improve every day and compete. The second round was one of the best rounds I have seen in a long time. Today we played solid and got the job done. We will celebrate this victory and then get back to work on Tuesday to be ready for Hawai'i."
As a team, ASU shot 838 (-26) over the weekend, their best three-round total this season by 15 strokes.
Linnea Strom matched her day one round (68) to finish second (207/-9), her lowest three-round total of the season. Monica Vaughn was a stroke behind her in third (208/-8) while Sophia Zeeb finished fourth (210/-6). For Zeeb, it was her highest finish of the season to date.
"Linnea was so close to winning and it's just a matter of time. Monica played very well this week after taking some time off due to the passing of her grandmother. Sophia had another good week finishing fourth and Olivia had her best finish of the year in sixth place. Roberta rounded out the lineup in 16th place, which means we had a great effort from everyone on our team."
Olivia Mehaffey also earned her first top-10 collegiate finish in a tie for sixth (213/-3) while all five Sun Devils finished in the top-20 (Roberta Liti shot +3 for the tournament). Madison Kerley, competing as an individual, ended the tournament in 15th place (217/+1).
The Sun Devils have a week to prepare before heading to Maui, Hawai'i for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic (Mar. 27-29). In two weeks, they return to Arizona to host the annual PING/ASU Invitational (Apr. 7-9).
