MESA, Ariz. – The No. 4 Sun Devils stayed poised while battling throughout round one as one of the top three teams in Notre Dame's Clover Cup, ending the first day in second place.

No. 2 Florida State is nine strokes under par (279) for the lead followed by Arizona State, just two strokes behind (-7/281). No. 27 Oklahoma is currently in third (-6/282).

"We started off a little slow but really found our stride at the turn," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Linnea [Strom] overcame a double bogey early then turned it on and played great. Monica [Vaughn] hit 18 greens and played beautifully, Sophia [Zeeb} and Olivia [Mehaffey} are ready to go under par tomorrow, and Roberta [Liti] played well. She just needed a few more putts to drop. Madison [Kerley] also had a good day playing as an individual."

ASU's round one score (281) as a team ties for their best in tournament play this season, second best round of the year behind their single round dual (278) vs. Denver earlier this spring.

Individually, Linnea Strom (T4), shot 68 on the day (-4) while Monica Vaughn (T7) joins her in the top-10, shooting 69 (-3). For each, it was their second lowest round of the season thus far.

Sophia Zeeb and Olivia Mehaffey shot par-72, each T-14th and Roberta Liti (+2/74) finished day one in a tie for 27th.

Playing as an individual, Madison Kerley joined Zeeb and Mehaffey in a tie for 14th, shooting 72 on day one.

"We are excited to be playing so close to campus and look forward to playing strong tomorrow."

Once again, the Sun Devils will be paired with Florida State and Oklahoma as the top three teams in the tournament on Saturday, teeing off between 9:40-10:20 am PT.
