FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. – To start reigning national champion Sun Devil triathlon's non-championship spring season, Amy Darlington competed Saturday at the Desert Classic Duathlon, finishing in the top 20 overall in the 21st annual version of the event.

Darlington finished third of 29 women and 17th of 84 total participants in the duathlon.

Saturday's duathlon comprised two run portions with a bike leg sandwiched in the middle. Darlington ran the fastest second leg among all females and second fastest first leg among the women. Overall, her second run leg was the sixth fastest of the competition.

Each of two run portions was 3.5 miles long while the bike leg was 25.2 miles long. The total run and bike portions of the duathlon were nearly double what the Sun Devils' complete during the championship triathlon season (20 km bike, 5K run), while omitting the swim portion.

The Devils will have a full five-member team competing on Mar. 5 at the Draft Legal Challenge U25 Elite Development Race (EDR) in Clermont, Fla. (Amy Darlington, Sarah Quintero, Delaney Bucker, Lillie Robinson, and Kendal Williams) while Katie Gorczyca and Charlotte Ahrens will compete at the CAMTRI Sprint Championships in Sarasota, Fla. the following week (Mar. 11).
