STANFORD, Calif. – Despite a game-high 21 points from Sophie Brunner, the No. 18 Arizona State women's basketball team was not able to overcome No. 10 Stanford on its home floor as the Sun Devils dropped a 66-56 decision on Sunday.

After shooting 32 percent in a win at Cal on Friday night, the Sun Devils (14-5, 5-3 Pac-12) fared no better on Sunday, connecting on only 30 percent of their shots against the Cardinal. Stanford (17-3, 7-1) shot 46 percent and became only the second team (Maryland) to outrebound the Sun Devils this season as it was plus-eight on the boards (37-29).

Brunner, who posted her 20th career double-double in Friday's win at Cal, came just short of notching a second consecutive double-double on Sunday as she grabbed nine rebounds to go with her 21 points. In the first half Brunner moved into second place on ASU's all-time list for career rebounds after pulling down the 824th rebound of her career.

Also scoring in double figures for the Sun Devils was senior Quinn Dornstauder, who had 14 points to go with six rebounds.

Erica McCall (18 points), Karlie Samuelson (15 points) and Brittany McPhee (13 points) led Stanford's attack as the trio combined for 46 points.

Stanford got off to a fast start as it scored 10 of the game's first 12 points to take a 10-2 lead after a 3-pointer by McCall with 4:18 remaining. The Cardinal would eventually extend its lead to 10 (14-4) before a 3-pointer by Brunner cut the deficit to seven at the end of the quarter.

ASU would get within three points on two occasions in the second quarter, but was never able to pull even. Stanford closed the half with a 13-2 run to take a 30-19 lead at the half.

The Sun Devils would get within single digits after Brunner's layup with 7:53 remaining in the third quarter cut Stanford's lead 32-24. Stanford would not allow them to get any closer as the Cardinal countered by scoring 12 straight points to take a 44-24 lead.

After Stanford took its largest lead – 48-26 – the Sun Devils responded with a 6-1 run to end the quarter capped by a 3-pointer by Sydney Goodson.

Despite the deficit they faced the Sun Devils continued to battle in the fourth quarter as they outscored Stanford 23-17 over the final 10 minutes. Brunner (nine points) and Dornstauder (eight points) combined for 17 points in the final period.

The Sun Devils will stay on the road next week for games at No. 13 UCLA on Friday (8 p.m. PT/9 p.m. MT) and at USC on Sunday (3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT).
