ASU led 10-9 at the 13:22 of the first half but it was all No. 18 Purdue after that as the Boilermakers opened up a 47-21 halftime lead on Arizona State en route to a 97-64 victory at the Jimmy V Classic Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

"Purdue's a really good basketball team – really good toughness, really good balance and inside game. They made quite a bit of shots behind the line. I thought that we competed for about eight minutes out of 40; that's just not enough at this level," said Sun Devil head coach Bobby Hurley. "The first eight minutes, I thought we were solid – we weren't making shots, but we were competing hard. We got some turnovers and were in the game. So much of our identity is based on shot making, and we go 4-of-26 from three – we're going to have nights like that. It definitely affected how we defended and how we continued to compete throughout the game.

"That was really disturbing – how we competed. It's not a reflection of my personality or the team's I've coached in the past, so we have to make some changes. We had a nice win against UNLV and defended and played pretty hard, but, tonight, we just didn't do that...probably outside of Maurice O'Field taking two charges for us and Kodi Justice who I thought competed well, defended and gave good effort."

ASU was led by Shannon Evans II who had 16 points, while Torian Graham added 14 and Kodi Justice 11 off the bench. ASU shot just 4-of-26 (.154) from the three-point stripe while Purdue made 15-of-27. Purdue shot .594 (.38-of-64) from the field.

ASU (5-4) now plays at San Diego State on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. PT/5 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Net.
