PULLMAN, Wash.— Arizona State volleyball's (9-18, 2-13 Pac-12) senior Maya McClendon posted a career high 24 kills on Friday night as the Sun Devils fell in four sets to Washington State (18-9, 8-7 Pac-12) at Bohler Gym.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with Maya McClendon's performance tonight," head coach Stevie Mussie said. "She had 24 kills on some really efficient attacking at .477, which is huge. I also think we passed better tonight, which is something we've really been working on in practice, but we need to close out better at the end of set. You only get so many chances to win on the road and we need to work on taking advantage."
McClendon, who hit .477 on the night, set her previous career high of 21 kills in 2014 (at Louisville; vs. Appalachian St. on Sept. 6). She also posted five digs and an assist during the match.
Fellow senior Cassidy Pickrell finished the night with 13 kills, six digs, and four blocks, while junior Oluoma Okaro put up a team-high six blocks, along with eight kills.
Sophomore setter Kylie Pickrell led the Devils with 35 assists while junior libero Halle Harker put up 28 digs, a season high and the most since she put up 25 at Utah on Sept. 24. This brings Harker's career digs total to 1,334. She is 31 digs from the No. 7 all-time mark at ASU, 1,365, set by Mindy Gowell (1987-81).
For Washington State, Kyra Holt led the Cougars with 17 kills, while Taylor Mims posted 14 kills and eleven blocks.
Up next the Sun Devils will play their final regular-season road match at Washington on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT/Noon MT at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The match will be live streamed via GoHuskies.com.
