TEMPE, Ariz. – After his record-breaking night in San Antonio on Friday, senior place kicker Zane Gonzalez earned the Lou Groza Award 'Star of the Week', announced the Palm Beach County Sports Commission on Monday. He was also named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week.

His Pac-12 honor makes him the 108th Sun Devil football player to earn a conference weekly award since it began in 1983, and the first Special Teams honor since Tim White won the award on Oct. 15, 2015.

Early in the second quarter, Gonzalez hit his second field goal of four on the night, breaking the Pac-12 record for points scored in a career with his 416th, passing UCLA's Ka'imi Fairbarn's total of 413 set in 2015. By the end of the game, the Deer Park, Texas native extended his record to 424 points (81 FGs, 179 PATs, 2-point conversion).

The first two field goals from Gonzalez were from 54 yards out, which were both career longs for him and made him 3-for-3 on the season from 50-plus yards. That feat made him the first Sun Devil in history to kick more than one 50-yarder in a single game, which comes after not having any in his career prior to the 2016 campaign. He is also the only player currently in the FBS to have hit multiple 50-yard field goals so far this season.

His four field goals against UTSA also moved him into a tie with former Sun Devil Luis Zendejas for 6th in FBS history – and 1st in ASU history -- for career field goals made at 81. The FBS record is 88 by FSU's Dustin Hopkins and the Pac-12 record is 85 by Kai Forbath of UCLA.

Gonzalez has now scored a point in 42 consecutive games and is fast-approaching Zendejas' other school record of 45 consecutive games with a point scored. He also now has made four or more field goals in six different games in his career, which is three more than any other Sun Devil player in history.

Gonzalez has been a two-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist in 2013 and 2014. He was last named a 'Star of the Week' for his overtime game-winner against Utah on November 1, 2014. He earned two 'Star of the Week' honors that season.

ASU and Gonzalez will take on Cal on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. (PST) on ESPN2 in Tempe.
